Our one rather unusual crop. We had two fields of peonies on which we raised flowers commercially for Memorial Day. It's an old picture (late '50s, probably) and the colors had begun to fade. With PhotoShop, I managed to get the greens and the flower colors pretty accurate. The sky hardly ever turned that strange purple cast. When it did, folks headed for the storm cellar. The many blooms in that field are an indication of how far behind we were in harvesting them. Those opened too fast for us to cut, probably because it was one of those warm and beautiful sunny days when they virtually exploded from tight bud to open flower as you watched.
