Downtown Hutchinson. That's the corner of "B" and Main. The fictional downtown of Buffalo Springs, in my novels, is mostly abandoned and boarded up. What businesses remain are predominantly second hand stores masquerading as antique shops, of which there are several in this shot. The left half of the building left of the yellow one was my father's dry cleaning plant, Jimmie Hayes Cleaners, from before I was born until the early '60s. Since Hutchinson had a Naval Air Station during WWII, and for several years thereafter, it was a good business to be in. Then, along came permanent press and lots of competition and it was time to retire.
