Writer-in-Residence

The Pima County Libraries

Mike is the Writer-in-Residence at the Pima County Libraries, May through July of 2019.

The Writer-in-Residence is a grant funded program. Mike is available for consultations at two libraries on Tuesdays (Woods Memorial Library, Noon to 2:30 pm, and Oro Valley Public Library, 3:30 to 6:00 pm). During those times, he is available for half-hour blocks (call the libraries for reservations) or walk-ins, if time is available, to talk with other writers and those who want to become writers.

In addition, Mike will be presenting these three two-hour workshops:

Opening Lines and Paragraphs: Writing to Hook Readers on Page One

Thursday, June 13, 2019 (1:30PM - 3:30PM)
Dusenberry-River Library

As an author you want to connect with your readers -- and hook them with your opening sentences and following paragraphs. This workshop will demonstrate how successful writers accomplish that. Participants will then put what they've learned into practice.

To Die Laughing: Effectively Combining Humor and Suspense

Tragedy plus time and distance equals comedy -- it's the mixture of humor and suspense that appeals to readers. This workshop will demonstrate how successful writers use this technique, and provide an opportunity for participants to put what they've learned into practice. Please bring writing supplies: pen, paper and a clipboard (or something similar).

The Art of Writing: Exercises to Stretch Writing Skills
